RADIO DRAMA

This multilingual radio drama competition showcases captivating performances in three different languages, serving as a bridge between cultures and promoting diversity and unity through the art of audio storytelling. By presenting stories rooted in various traditions and cultural backgrounds, it preserves invaluable heritage while introducing audiences to new perspectives and experiences. The competition not only entertains but also strengthens the cultural value of radio drama, highlighting its role as a timeless medium for sharing narratives that inspire, educate, and connect communities across linguistic boundaries.

Competition Rules

  • Each team must consist of 2 to 5 participants.

  • The language of delivery must be entirely in the language registered.

  • The drama must incorporate voice, background music, and sound effects that are appropriate to enhance the audio impact.

  • All entries must be original, self-created works that have not been previously broadcast, published, or awarded in any competition.

  • The recording must be clear, without distortion, and of good audio quality.

  • The drama must remain respectful, and must not contain elements of politics, obscenity, provocation, or content that touches upon religious or racial sensitivities.

  • Participants must adhere to the given theme.

  • Participants are required to include:

    • the “general dialogue” phrase,

    • one “selected dialogue” phrase, and

    • one “proverb dialogue” phrase.

  • The placement of these dialogues is entirely at the participants’ discretion and creativity.

Theme: Echoes of Tomorrow’s Generation

General Dialogue:

  • “The future will not arrive on its own — it is ours to shape, to build, and to claim, together as one.”

Selected Dialogue Option:

  • “The seeds we plant today will bloom into the harvest of tomorrow.”

  • “Machines may evolve, yet the essence of humanity endures.”

  • “At times, silence echoes more deeply than a thousand voices” 

  • “If we do not rise, who will stand in our place?”

  • “I walk forward, yet the shadows of yesterday cling to my every step.”

Proverb Dialogue Option:

  • "As the twig is bent, so grows the tree”

  • “A burden shared is a burden halved.”

  • “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.”

  • “Little strokes fell great oaks.”

  • “True values never fade.”

Duration:

  • Radio drama length must be between  10 to 15 minutes.

Audio Recording Format:

  • MP3 or WAV.

  • File name: (INSTITUTION NAME_ID NUMBER_RADIO DRAMA TITLE).

Script Writing Format:

  • Soft copy in PDF/Word format.

  • Drama Title

  • Duration

  • Genre

  • Number of Characters.

  • Synopsis (80 - 100 words) 

  • Script

  • File name: (INSTITUTION NAME_ID NUMBER_RADIO DRAMA TITLE).

Submission Format:

  • Files must include both the “Audio Recording” and “Script Writing”.

  • Submission is via Google Form (Google Drive link) provided by the organisers.

  • Ensure the link is accessible (not private/empty file). Otherwise, the submission will be deemed invalid.

  • Participants without access to Google must inform the organisers for an alternative submission method.

  • Only the final version submitted by 23:59 (GMT+8, Malaysia Time) on 30 October will be accepted. Any re-uploads after the closing date will not be considered or evaluated by the jury. (Participants are advised to convert this to their local time zone to determine the exact deadline in their country.)

Judging

  • The judges’ decision is final and binding.

Evaluation Criteria

Content & Storyline – 25%

  • Strength of the plot, message conveyed, relevant theme, and story impact.

 

Script & Dialogue – 20%

  • Originality, good language use, effective and realistic dialogue.

 

Character Interpretation – 20%

  • Clarity of emotions, voice intonation, and suitability of voice for the character.

 

Sound Effects & Background Music – 15%

  • Suitability, creativity, and effectiveness of sounds in conveying the atmosphere.

 

Recording Technique & Audio Quality – 10%

  • Clarity of voice, absence of noise interference, and professional recording.

 

Presentation Creativity – 10%

  • Unique delivery style and distinctiveness.
